Help Me Say Goodbye an Excellent Aid for Grieving Children

Help Me Say Goodbye is an excellent aid for parents and others dealing with children grieving at the loss of a loved one. Over time, the exercises and discussions they engender with grieving children open up the child's understanding of their own grief and the grief process. It is good for very young children, who often have difficulty expressing some of the confusing and conflicting thoughts one has when a loved one dies. The activities in the book are respectful of feelings small children have, and encourages all attempts at expression of complicated feelings. The workbook can be used again and again as the child works his/her way through feelings found in the different phases of grief. This is another book I have sent to orphanages in Africa, and also to caretakers of children who have just lost a parent. It has proven to be helpful and comforting in all circumstances. The book has also had the perhaps unintended effect of making children more sensitive to and compassionate about an adult's grief. Excellent for families.

this really helped me with my young sons

When my husband died a few months ago, our children were only 2 and 4 years old, they were not sure what was going on but I found this book a few weeks before he passed away and I was able to start talking to them and showing them the activities in this book. His slow decent as the Cancer took over gave us the time to start before he died, but this book would be very helpful for sudden deaths as well. My four year old did one of the ideas from this book, making a memory table at the funeral and filling it with items that reminded him of his father, it was a very touching moment when people learned what the table represented. I would recommend this for sure, I even gave a copy to my son's preschool to use when other children need to learn to say goodbye to someone they love.

About DYING and death

This book deals with the PROCESS OF DYING and saying goodbye to a person who is leaving you slowly. It is a lovely book for this purpose. However, bought it for a child grieving the SUDDEN death of a sibling and it is not as suitable for this purpose. I wish it had been made more clear in the description.

About the Author

Emory Douglas was the Black Panther Party's Minister of Culture and chief art director for the party's important newspaper for twelve years. In these roles, he gave visual dimension to the party's revolutionary message and mission, broadening the party's impact within a larger cultural framework. Sam Durant is a Los Angeles-based artist. Danny Glover, the accomplished actor, producer, and director best known for his Lethal Weapon movies, attended San Francisco State during the years the Black Panther party was active in the Bay Area. He's credited the party with having a profound influence on both his creative development and political consciousness. Amiri Baraka is a writer and political activist who lives in Newark, New Jersey. Kathleen Cleaver, attorney, author, and senior lecturer at Yale University and Emory Law School, joined the Black Panther Party in 1967. St. Clair Bourne is a veteran filmmaker. Colette Gaiter is an associate professor at the University of Delaware. Greg Morozumi is artistic director of the EastSide Arts Alliance in Oakland, California. Sonia Sanchez is a poet.

VERNACULAR SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes when images from newspapers or TV are taken out of context they can fall flat out of meaning or context. Not so for the revolutionary work of Emory Douglas. Douglas who was the Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party from 1968-1980 and it's weekly newspaper artist amassed more works for the paper in a short period than most artists in a lifetime. But quantity is not the focus here but quality, growth and diversity. Emory Douglas is a prolific artist; his one page pieces included in the Black Panther newspaper were captivating and profoundly moved individuals all over the world no matter what language they spoke. His work has influenced every generation of artists/writers/activists who found their way into his work. It is interesting to note that while Emory's finished work was incredibly elaborate looking his tools of choice were simple pen, marker, tape and paper. His palette always represented and reflected the working class.

Black Panther: The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas focuses on many of Emory's best works and includes forward and texts from former Panther Chairman Bobby Seale, Kathleen Cleaver, Amiri Baraka (still NJ Poet-Lauriat in my book)and Danny Glover among a few.

A definite must for anyone and everyone!!!!!!!

Book is being re-issued in Feb. 2014!

Very glad to see that this book, which should have a much wider audience, is being re-issued by Rizzoli in early 2014. Emory Douglas was a passionate, talented artist. Without his work, the Panthers would have lost one of their best means of communication. He's a hero.

The book for Flare XML

Great book. It is exactly what I needed to help convert existing XML documents to Flare documents. By exposing the structure of objects such as glossaries and tables of contents and including code examples, transforming existing XML (including XHTML) to Flare XML becomes very straightforward. I couldn't find this information anywhere else so it was especially gratifying to discover that this book is also very well written.

About the Author
PAUL STAMETS is the founder of Fungi Perfecti and codirector and founder of the Rainforest Mushroom Genome and Mycodiversity Preservation Project. He is the author of two seminal textbooks, The Mushroom Cultivator and GROWING GOURMET AND MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS, has been published in numerous journals, and is presenting more lectures on mycology than he can keep track of. An advisor and consultant to the Program for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona Medical School and the 1998 recipient of the Collective Heritage Institute’s Bioneers Award, Stamets lives in Kamilche Point, Washington with his collection of more than 250 medicinal mushroom cultures.

Buy it. Read it. Grow it. Eat it. With no cholesterol!

The only issue I have with this book is that Paul is operating on such a grand scale. Much of his ideas and suggestions, though absolutely sound, need to be downsized if intended to be applied by this reader. Not a big issue for me, as the foundational understanding is what I was truly after, and this book provides that. I plan to read it again once I've finished with the author's other book, Mycelium Running. If you don't have that book yet, quit screwing around and go buy it. Such a good read! And for those gardeners among us (like me), pair this and Mycelium Running with Teaming with Microbes (Lownfels&Lewis) and Teaming with Nutrients (Lowenfels). There are a lot of books, but these have all been great for me in my pursuit of a healthier food source for my family. Atherosclerosis is a killer, people. Source your protein better. Paul will show you how.

Not for the beginner

I was looking for something I could read as a beginner to start growing my own mushrooms, this book is not it. It is however jam packed full of information, but is just somewhat difficult to sift through all of it an get a good understanding on what I am doing without a bunch of reading....this book is way thicker than I had imagined it would be. If you are looking for a book on mushrooms and have a good background on them and looking to fine tune your skills this would be helpful for you. If your are like me and just looking to get started I would choose something less confusing.

you need to get 3 books in the series, Mycelium Running, The Mushroom Cultivator, MycoMedicinals, and this book, growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms! u need to have a small library of books if ur going to do it right. Here is a very practical book for growing them on a small scale, like at home, like me!! its "the essential guide to "Cultivating Mushrooms"< in big letters on the cover! by Stephen Russell !! this is an excellent practical book, in plain English, not so much in technical names, and it very good at showing exactly how to do it !! the other 3 go in to more detail, if u want to know more, but this last books tells it how it is in real life and in your backyard or basement. you will never know how good or bad it is, if u don't start ordering some soon! u may pick up only 1 tip from a whole book, but that tip maybe the key to ur success or ur failure!
that's the cost of doing business!!

About the Author

Alan Cafruny is Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs at Hamilton College, USA, and former Visiting (1993-4) and External (1994-2000) Professor at the European University Institute, Italy. In 2013-14 he was Fulbright Scholar at the Higher School of Economics National Research University in Moscow, Russia. Alan has written numerous books and articles in the areas of international political economy, the political economy of the European Union and U.S. foreign policy.

Leila Simona Talani is Professor of International Political Economy at the Department of European and International Studies, Kings College London, UK, where she was appointed Jean Monnet Chair of European Political Economy in 2012. She has previously held posts at the London School of Economics and the University of Bath, UK, and was Associate Expert for the United Nations Regional Office for Drug control and Crime Prevention in Cairo, Egypt. Simona has written extensively on European political economy, the political economy of international migration, and on the Economic and Monetary Union.

Gonzalo Pozo Martin is an independent researcher associated with the ‘Vision of Eurasia’ project, based at Södertörn University, Stockholm, Sweden. He was previously Lecturer in International Political Economy at the Department of European and International Studies, King’s College London, and Lecturer in International Relations at Goldsmiths College, University of London.  He has also held University of London posts at SOAS and Birkbeck College. His work has concentrated on the Marxist Theory of Imperialism, geopolitics, and Russian foreign policy and political economy.

In Organizing from the Inside Out, author Julie Morgenstern used three main strategies to whip a living space or office into shape: "analyze, strategize, attack." Using the same system, Morgenstern now shows readers how to get rid of chaotic schedules in order to live more comfortable and productive lives. Morgenstern likens a cluttered schedule to a cluttered closet. For example, a closet is typically "crammed with more stuff than storage," and a schedule is typically "crammed with more tasks than time."

Those who fear "time management" because they worry about living uncreative or overly scheduled lives will find themselves reassured by Morgenstern's ability to customize her system. I got bogged down and couldn't find time to finish the book

This seems like it would be a good book for those with problems managing their time. I started to read it and got distracted and then just couldn't find time to finish. Maybe I need a book on time management to get through this one.

Morphed me from scattered adult into effective student

The Monday after Thanksgiving I set out on a new career adventure. To partake of the training I need for this new career, I'm studying my new trade by correspondence course (the old-fashioned kind where you receive lessons in the mail). The course will go for six months, so I'll need to be self-motivated to get through all the material, learn the underlying wisdom and techniques, and complete the exercises.

Fortunately, I found Ms. Morgenstern's book during a visit to my local library. This came at the perfect moment for me and I began incorporating 30-minute sessions with Julie's book into my daily study periods.

With the help of Time Mapping, I've used the book to structure (and make ongoing adjustments to) my study goals. With the help of chapters such as Sort, Containerize, and Purge, I've become better at focusing my time to get through my to-do list and thus make better use of my leisure time.

I *feel* better about how much time I have, even though I've just added a big commitment in the form of 22 hours of study per week. I've been able to schedule realistic time slots for my other tasks as well as plenty of down-time. It's amazing how this book has helped me expand my concept of available time.

Using the visual aids in the book, and also researching more options online, I've finally chosen a planner that really works for me. This was a liberating step as I had not even realized I'd chosen a planner that wasn't right for me. I'd been subconsciously blaming myself for not making proper use of my old planner, but Julie's book helped me see through that defeatist thinking and find the solution. She works that magic in other areas also, helping demystify foggy habits such as procrastination and chronic lateness.

[Incidentally, since you're considering tools for better use of time, you might enjoy a little tip on planners that I stumbled across. While searching for your perfect planner (or, as I am, while getting through the final weeks of a waning year), you can supplement by using At-A-Glance QuickNotes Daily Planner. It comes as a tear-off pad with undated pages (you fill in the dates yourself) and each page has hole punches for optional storage in a ring binder. The cost is approx. five bucks for a pad of 50 sheets - which makes it an affordable way to experiment. It's a great way to practice structuring your day in a large format where you can spread out and really go ballistic.]

I've checked TIME MANAGEMENT FROM THE INSIDE OUT out of the library twice in a row so I could finish it. I now plan to buy my own copy from Amazon so I can go back over it and highlight the methods I didn't quite incorporate the first time around.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had not already read Morgenstern's book ORGANIZING FROM THE INSIDE OUT, so I did not find the material repetitious. I found it inspiring and very helpful. I would go as far as saying this book has changed my life. Time eating me alive has always been one of my biggest issues. Time now feels like less of a taskmaster and more of a personal tool.

I can't wait to see how I feel about time (and my accomplishments) once I've been practicing my new schedule for six months or longer.

P.S. I just found out there's a second edition, so I'll probably buy that one to get the updated features.

Another Victory for Ms. Morgenstern

Ms. Morgenstern's first book, Organizing from the Inside Out, was tremendously helpful because of its ease with which I could apply the principles to my life. Her kindergarten model of organizing space -- to create activity zones -- totally resonated with me the first time I read OFIO, and her use of it again in relation to time management is so great!
She advocates a goal-oriented approach to scheduling time and actually helps her readers think through their goals. In the second part of the book, which I found particularly helpful, she brings the kindergarten model back and applies it to mapping out time. Morgenstern also provides specific instructions about how to zone your own calendar so that you can make really effective and informed decisions about your time.
The most appealing part of Morgenstern's approach -- and the part that separates her from other self-help authors -- is that she never IMPOSES anything on her readers; rather, she teaches us _how_ to discover what's going to work in our own lives. She gave me freedom to figure out what was going to work for me, rather than making me learn a new, complicated system to impose on myself.
