About the Author
Demetria Clark is an internationally known herbalist, aromatherapist, and midwife. She has studied and apprenticed with renowned herbal practitioners, including Rosemary Gladstar, Jane Smolnik, and Susun Weed, and received her aromatherapy education from the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy. Demetria pioneered online herbal education by founding Heart of Herbs School, which offers certification courses in herbalism and aromatherapy and has trained over 1,000 students. She is also the director of Birth Arts International, the premier doula training organization. Demetria is the author of Herbal Healing for Children.

A Must Have

This book is a must have for me! It was very beneficial during my pregnancy and it's something I will continue to have on hand and recommend to other women. Whether you're doing birth work, a first time mom, or not a first time mom-- there is a lot of information and benefit in Demetria's book as usual. Learn how to safely use aromatherapy from the author-- who is a mom, doula, midwife, and all around knowledgeable aromatherapist. She gets it, and wants us to benefit.

I HIGHLY recommend this book!

I'd like to start off by saying that I am a mother of 12 (just had #12 six weeks ago), a birth doula, and a childbirth educator. I own and use a lot of herbal information books. This book is one of my favorites. Unlike most herbal remedy books, she spells out exactly how to make various remedies. She also teaches you how to develop your own based on your own individual needs. There are sections on oil blends, herbal teas, essential oil usage, making lozenges, liniments, salves, extracts, and compresses, although this isn't the entire list.
Being a midwife she addresses all the common concerns women have pre-pregnancy, throughout pregnancy, and postpartum. From depression, to stretch marks, to hemorrhoids, to breastfeeding, she covers every ailment you or your clients could possibly have with various remedies to choose from.
I HIGHLY recommend her book. It is one of my favorites that I use for reference all the time now. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with this purchase!

Demetria Clark has written a beautiful and educational resource; Aromatherapy and Herbal Remedies is both insightful and useful. When I first began reading it, I had the bias that it would be something of a resource for myself, as a birth worker, but difficult to encourage my clients to read. I was wrong.

I have already recommended this book to three clients and will continue to do so as the wealth of information and read-friendliness of Aromatherapy and Herbal Remedies is sure to make this a regular on bookshelves across America. Her book is broken down into aromatherapy for pregnancy, labor and birth, and breastfeeding, and remedies for pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum/breastfeeding. She also includes an introduction to herbs, aromatherapy, and information on how to grow, harvest, and prepare your own ingredients.
She has a concise list of herbs and essential oils, as well as their uses and contraindications. Additionally, she provides a substantial section on recipes for everything from teas to poultices, and diffusing blends to massage oils/salves. I'm excited to refer to this book time and time again and have no doubt it will become a staple on many birth workers book shelves.
