About the Author
Nancy Naternicola earned a BS in physical education teacher education and health at Florida Southern College, and an MS in physical education teacher education from West Virginia University (WVU). She is the fitness and wellness director of the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS). Nancy develops fitness programming and teaches fitness classes for the WVU Lifetime Activities Program. She also oversees and teaches courses in the personal trainer minor and group fitness minor programs and teaches classes in the basic instruction program.
Naternicola manages the WVU Stansbury Fitness Center and supervises personal training and exercise physiology interns. She is a faculty member and master trainer for the American Council on Exercise. She has taught more than 15 types of group fitness, including step, kickboxing, fitness yoga, mat Pilates, sport conditioning, hip-hop, and boot camp.
Naternicola teaches for Fitness Pro Travel in Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Curacao. She chairs the Wellness Task Force and is the CPASS employee wellness coordinator and an American Red Cross instructor. She is a member of the West Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (WVAHPERD).
She enjoys all types of activities and sports and believes a body in motion stays in motion.

Fitness Steps to Success I love this book

Fitness Steps to Success
I love this book! I wish it had been available years ago when i began my own journey to fitness. If it had, I know I would have arrived much sooner to a better state of fitness. As it was, I wandered around in different programs that emphasized one or sometimes two main aspects of fitness and I never arrived at a feeling of completeness. Fitness Steps to Success offers clear concise directions for reaching results.
If you don’t use a trainer, this is a very good alternative! And if you do have a trainer this is like a collection of notes to be used when you are working on your own. This book contains all the foundational pieces that you would be paying a good trainer to teach you. Actually this book is complete enough to be used as a text book in a basic trainer’s instruction program.
For beginners the pictures and descriptions of exercises are excellent and include the essentials of posture and breath. For intermediate fitness fans these exercises include a progressive plan for a well balanced or well rounded approach which includes strength, balance, flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning. Many people tend to focus on only one or two of these areas and come up lacking in complete health and reaching the fuller potentials that fitness has to offer at every level of being. And finally, for those advanced in all of these health arenas it opens up the next stage for completion of fitness: the teaching of others…….as one really “owns" a body of work when they teach it or share it with others.
I especially enjoyed the chapter on behavior change which describes the stages we all pass through whenever we attempt yet again to change an unhealthy behavior. Then simple strategies for changing behavior guide you from where you are to where you know you are a changed person.

The Right Steps

I was curious to see if I could gain insights and approaches to achieving the benefits of fitness. I was not disappointed with this product. One of the many weights on our healthcare system as most folks may be aware is the lack of attention to our own fitness and well being. Inevitably this leads to problems, many that could be prevented. This book is certainly a step in the right direction to help us. Not only is it comprehensive and wonderfully illustrated but it is easy to follow and well designed.
The book takes you through each phase of the fitness path in the following detail: Overview, Testing and Evaluation, Goals, Cardiorespiratory Exercise, Muscular Strength and Endurance, Flexibility, Balance, Core Strength and Endurance, Nutrition, and Behavior Change. Some of the weight training equipment might be out of the reach of some, by and large their are plenty of simple equipment set ups requiring just a bench, free weights, and dumbbells. This book is an excellent start for those who seriously want to take on the challenge of achieving fitness in their life and is well worth that effort.

Easy to read

Well written. Easy to read. Discover how to build a fitness plan specific to your own needs and desires. Some exercises require minimal equipment, such as a bench. But others require nothing. For example, the wall sit, an excellent exercise. Great color photos show you how to do each exercise. The instructions are clear, easy to grasp.
